“I originally came up with the idea for the Sign of Love collection when I read a short article about how the different star signs approach romantic love.” – Mia Sheridan
The Origins Of The Sign Of Love Series
In this exclusive feature for Reader’s House Magazine, Mia shares the inspirations behind her beloved Sign of Love series. The idea, she explains, came after reading a short article on how star signs approach romantic love. What began with her novel Leo grew into a collection of eleven books, each shaped by zodiac traits or legends, leaving only Pisces unwritten. Sheridan notes that the zodiac has been a fun and motivating way to spark new stories.
Creating A Different Kind Of Hero
One of Mia’s most beloved novels, Archer’s Voice, introduced readers to Archer Hale, a hero unlike the dominant “alpha males” of the romance genre. Sheridan admits she was nervous about how such a vulnerable and unconventional character would be received, but the overwhelming love from readers proved his enduring appeal. Archer’s quiet strength and emotional depth have made him a lasting icon in contemporary romance.
Writing Through Grief And Finding Hope
Themes of healing and second chances feature strongly in Mia’s work, and for good reason. She began writing in 2012, following a personal loss that left her searching for hope. Infusing her stories with that longing became both cathartic and purposeful, allowing her to offer readers the belief that life can flourish even in the aftermath of despair.
Building New Worlds With Emotional Depth
Her novel Becoming Calder was her first experience of world building, drawing partly from research into cults and their charismatic leaders. By blending real-world psychology with creative freedom, Sheridan crafted the society of Acadia. She also admits that her characters’ deep wounds often mirror her own grief journey, a process that is painful yet healing and one she hopes helps others.
Looking Towards The Screen
When asked which of her novels she would love to see adapted for film or television, Mia points to her upcoming Heart of the Sun. Its apocalyptic setting and sweeping romance, she feels, would translate powerfully to screen, offering audiences the same immersive experience her readers already cherish.
